train me

july 1-3, 2008

i asked for it, i got it.
april & myself were sent to a people handling skills seminar provided by guthrie jenssen. it was held at the mandarin hotel for 3 consecutive days. i asked for this seminar because i have been officially handling, well, people, for more than a year now, & i wanted to uncover the other rudiments in this field. i wanted to assess my skills, if sufficient, or if they needed big time tweaking.

sure i've been leading people, if i recall, half my life. no qualms from them so i guess i did well. but at current, being officially put on the pedestal, i digest feedback like food, at times i enjoy the flavor, sometimes i don't. i had no steady background. so this seminar was my stepping stone..to more savory dishes haha!
day 1
motivational delegation = empowerment.
that us people handlers should not just, in our instructors' wording, pasa-load, but empower!
we were a batch of 20 & members were from a mixture of different industries (manufacturing, sales, insurance, service, hotel & f&b & us, support).

& our instructor was a comedian...could not quit makin' jokes...& i saw myself laughing. it has been quite a long time since i genuinely laughed at someone else's jokes...sigh...
sample of one of her funny stints below: (we were all concentrating while she discussed a topic.)

seriously responding naman kame...
her: no knowledge...
us: no power
her: no guts...
us: no glory

then...breaking the chain...
her: no id...
us: no entry
her: no return...
us: no exchange

bwahahaha! that didn't stop ticklin' me 'til the end of the day. by the way, i got elected to lead a 4-person group. oh you know these seminars, they have workshops to kill the thrill at every end of the day, or opposite for the others.

pictures from the smoking area of the hotel
went to greenbelt after the training & bought tickets for the film 'wanted'. while we waited for the screening hour, we had cocktail & snacks at the crocodile bar & resto. at 8pm, we saw 'wanted'. if you want to see alot of blood & death, go see this ultraviolent show. something to keep your adrenaline jacked up for 2+ hours. i loved it so should you.
day 2

power comes with great responsibilities - spiderman 1. haha. kulit ng instructor namin.

to fast forward, we went to the fort this time. april showed me market market, serendra & the mall at boni heights. we watched incredible hulk. love you edward norton! hihi.
after the movies & after taking out krispy kreme donuts for each of us from boni heights, we dined at larry's bar & resto at the serendra. april ordered her favorite (heavenly) chocolate lava cake, the mini version of what we had at chili's & i got myself a couple of daiquiris & shared a plate of their yummy calamares which was the best i've tasted so far.
day 3

practice makes permanent; many are chosen but a few make it; leaders are born but good leaders are made...
the workshop content for the last day was exasperating. we did a skit, to demonstrate what we've adapted from the 3-day seminar. well...we still made it & graduated...phew!
fast forwarding again, we went back to greenbelt & saw hancock while we nibbled on corndogs. rain poured by 10pm so we just went home after.
