definitely, maybe

i scarcely laugh at jokes or cry at dramas. but this movie got my tear ducts functioning effortlessly when will hayes (ryan reynolds) knelt at the park infront of his 10yo daughter to tell her what the happy ending of his story was.
rewinding...definitely, maybe is about will hayes (ryan reynolds), a soon-to-be-divorced political consultant who has a 10yo daughter maya (abigail breslin from the movie li'l miss sunshine) who's struggling to come to terms w/ her parents' divorce. she then begs her dad to recount the stories of all the women in his past, how he fell in love & fell out of love (specifically w/ her mom), & maya can guess which one ended up being her biological mother.
the 3 women are emily, april & summer.
one will be guessing throughout the movie the mystery of who the mother would turn out to be & who he ended up with. & i'm sorry but i'm going to spoil it. it was emily who's her biological mother, & the wife will hayes is divorcing. he ended up romancing april (the only name he didn't change in his tale).
why cry? when little maya's getting all confused w/ all the ladies coming into picture & wanted the story cut short, will asked her to be patient & listen to the whole story so she can hear the 'happy ending'. maya in despair, responded how can there be any happy ending when her parents are at the brink of a divorce? will's tale did not finish so their conversation continued the next day at the park. as emily met them there to pick up maya, maya ran back to her dad to thank him for the story. will's response to what the happy ending of the story was - he said, 'it was you maya'. this response struck me (even r). i saw rayna in maya...for all i know, my daughter might ask the same forbidding questions in the next few years. questions & answers i never thought i'd hear & speak of....
simply put, the moral of this movie, no matter how arduous love is, it's always possible to find one's happy ending...& that i don't need to long for a happy ending to my blemished life coz i already have one, just adequate for a perfect ending, my daughter.
